‘Yellowjackets’ Full Trailer Goes Manic for Survivors of Plane Crash in Season 3
“The only way to truly be safe is to be the only one left,” says Melanie Lynskey in Yellowjackets season three.
The warning comes in the new, official trailer (below) for the return of the survival-horror-coming of age drama that follows Lynskey and her fellow survivors of a plane crash that left them stranded in the remote wilderness for 19 months when they were teenagers, leading them to resort to cannibalism in order to survive.
The full trailer follows up on a previous, terrifying teaser that had revealed this season would be about both a haunting and a hunting, as the hit Showtime series continues to follow the survivors in dual timelines: present-day in 2021 with Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress, Lauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell; and in the 1996 crash timeline with their younger counterparts and additional survivors played by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, Samantha Hanratty, Courtney Eaton, Liv Hewson, Kevin Alves, Steven Krueger (The Originals) and more.
Warren Kole, Sarah Desjardins, Elijah Wood and newcomers Hilary Swank and Joel McHale also fill out the present-day cast.

The new trailer, set to Drowning Pool’s “Bodies,” puts the survivors’ collective mania on display. Highlights include a visit from departed series star Ella Purnell (whose Jackie was the first feast of the group); a possible reckoning for Coach (Krueger), who may or may not have burned down their shelter in the finale; tons of violence; a terrified Swank (her character details have yet to be shared); and horrors from the wilderness coming back to haunt (like Tai’s alter ego).
Season three begins streaming with two episodes on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14 (and on demand for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with Showtime plan) before its linear premiere on Feb. 16 at 8 p.m.
After suffering the loss of one of their core survivors in the season two finale — leading to the exit of star Juliette Lewis from the series — and the naming of her younger counterpart (Thatcher) as their official leader in the past timeline, the third season picks up with the wilderness survivors of the Yellowjackets soccer team making it through the winter.
The logline reads: “In season three, as summer arrives, the Yellowjackets face a fragile victory — the brutal winter that nearly claimed them is finally behind them, but distrust in leadership and tension within the team jeopardize their chances of being rescued. In the present, long-buried secrets from their pasts begin to surface. As the women fight to keep their lives from unraveling, they must confront a chilling question: who are they really, and what dark truths are they hiding from each other and themselves?”
As the present-day cast continues to attempt to piece back their trauma 25 years after the crash, the series proves that the past is never really past, and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.
Yellowjackets is executive produced by co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and fellow showrunner Jonathan Lisco. Drew Comins of Creative Engine is executive producer along with Jeff W. Byrd, Sarah L. Thompson, Ameni Rozsa and Brad Van Arragon. The series is produced for Showtime by Lionsgate Television and is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
