Throwback to Soumitra Chatterjee’s speech at the Filmfare Awards
During his acceptance speech, Soumitra Chatterjee humbly shared, “Good evening. Receiving an award feels good but speaking afterwards doesn’t feel as good. But I have to say something. Maybe, I have reached that age where receiving an award doesn’t matter to me much. But when it is Filmfare East – this has happened twice here, this is the third time – then as a person of Kolkata and as a member of the Kolkata film industry, I feel a special kind of happiness. And when I receive an award from a place like this, I feel like sharing the happiness with my audience who has been with me for 60 years and has loved me. I am here because of them.”
On November 15, 2020, Soumitra Chatterjee passed away and with him, the world lost a true artiste. His death left a deep, quiet sadness in the hearts of those who had followed his incredible journey for decades. But even though he’s no longer with us, his films, his voice, and his unmatched grace continue to live on. Soumitra will forever be remembered, not just for his acting, but for the warmth and humility that defined him both on and off the screen.
