Kunal Kemmu To Feature In Indian Version Of Brooklyn Nine-Nine ?
It has been reported that an untitled comedy series starring Kunal Kemmu is being developed for Netflix India, which will be an adaptation of the American police sitcom, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. According to these reports, Kunal will be taking on the role of Jake Peralta, originally portrayed by Andy Samberg in the series, which ran from 2013 to 2021.
It has been reported that Kunal Kemmu, known for his roles in famous films such as Go Goa Gone, the Golmaal franchise, Lootcase, and Bhaag Johnny, will be portraying the character of the clever but somewhat goofy detective, Jake Peralta in the Indian adaptation. According to reports by Peeping Moon, filmmaker Rishab Seth, recognized for his work on Rishta.com and Dhoom Dhaam, is now directing the adaptation, with the screenplay being written by Aarsh Vora, who frequently collaborates with the director.

Following the completion of filming for Kunal’s Netflix film Single Papa in October, the production for this series will begin. Also, the actor is scheduled to return to his role in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming film, Golmaal 5 and is also involved in Raj & DK’s Gulkanda Tales on Prime Video. He is also working on his second feature film as a director, following the success of Madgaon Express last year.

The original television series, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, was based on a team of detectives from the fictional 99thprecinct within the Brooklyn division of the New York Police Department. The show addressed social issues, such as racial discrimination, LGBTQ+ representation, and workplace dynamics, while maintaining a light-hearted approach and featuring a diverse cast. The series became well known for its cold openings and the comic timing of each character. This Indian adaptation currently has only Kunal Kemmu attached to it. The producers will decide the casting for characters like Captain Raymond Holt, Amy Santiago, and the other members of the precinct after the script is finalized.
