Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan and Genelia D’Souza’s heartfelt sports drama, is slowly but steadily winning the box office game. After a
modest start on Friday (
June 20), the film saw a strong
jump on Saturday, pulling in
Rs 21.50 crore across all languages. This brings its
total India net collection to Rs 32.20 crore in two days, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. On
Day 1, the film collected
Rs 10.7 crore, which was considered underwhelming for an Aamir Khan release. However, positive word-of-mouth, social media praise, and emotional audience reviews have clearly begun to work in its favour.
The Hindi occupancy rates further prove the rising interest. On Saturday:
Morning shows started slow at 13 percent
Afternoon shows increased to 31.86 percent
Evening shows rose to 43.05 percent
Night shows peaked with 56.71 percent occupancy
These numbers reflect that more people are heading to theatres after hearing good things about the film from early viewers.
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is the spiritual successor to Aamir Khan’s 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par. In this film, Aamir plays Gulshan, a basketball coach facing legal trouble who is ordered to train a group of intellectually disabled youth. What begins as a punishment soon becomes a life-changing experience for both the coach and the team. The film focuses on compassion, inclusion, humour, and hope, showing how each individual, regardless of challenges, has potential and purpose. The tone is lighter than the original, using comedy and warmth to send its message rather than heavy drama.
Aside from Aamir Khan and Genelia, the movie features 10 new actors making their debut. These include Aroush Datta, Samvit Desai, Simran Mangeshkar, and more—many of whom are neurodivergent in real life. Their performances have been widely applauded for their authenticity and charm.
