Box Office Report: Dhanush’s Kuberaa Rakes in Rs 13 Crores on Day 1
The Pan-India release of Kuberaa, featuring Dhanush, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Rashmika Mandanna, achieved a noteworthy opening day performance, although regional audience engagement was a bit varied. Reports projected an opening day gross of Rs 13 crore, marginally below the Rs 16 crore opening of Dhanush’s previous Tamil release, Raayan. The film, shot in Telugu and Tamil, released in those languages and had dubbed versions in Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
Telugu-speaking regions demonstrated the strongest performance, achieving an overall occupancy rate of 57.36%. Morning show occupancy started at 38.94%, gradually increasing to 54.58% in the afternoon, 57.04% in the evening, and increasing to 78.87% during night shows. Although, occupancy rates in other language markets were considerably lower, 33.73% in Tamil Nadu, 6.54% in Karnataka, and 6.73% in Hindi. Despite this, industry analysts anticipate positive word-of-mouth will contribute to increased viewership and momentum throughout the weekend.

Critics gave it mostly favourable reviews when it first came out, praising both the overall idea and Dhanush’s performance. The performances of other actors are also receiving recognition. Even among the crowd that purchased tickets, the first word-of-mouth has been positive.

Fans were excited about Kuberaa even before it was released, thanks to Dhanush‘s powerful performance as a beggar. Many praised his acting on social media, saying it was real and emotional. Rashmika Mandanna and Nagarjuna‘s unique roles were also well-received. The actors working together created a lot of anticipation. When Dhanush attended a screening with his son, he was visibly moved by the audience’s positive reaction. Although a steady start, Kuberaa is looking at a promising leap in numbers over the weekend thanks to the performances of the cast.
The film is based on a beggar (played by Dhanush) who undergoes a dramatic transformation as the film progresses. The movie also explores themes of greed, ambition, and moral dilemmas faced by the characters leading to a quest for power and redemption.
