How Optum and Zoom reimagined student wellness through music
Music is all you need
In today’s fast-paced academic environment, students often find themselves juggling academic expectations, digital overload, and the emotional ups and downs of campus life. Acknowledging this reality, Optum and Zoom, in collaboration with Radio Mirchi, launched a unique initiative called Happy Beats — a campaign that brought music to the forefront of student wellness in a refreshing and engaging way.
Spread over six months and across eight premier colleges in India, Optum Zoom Happy Beats travelled through cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi — and in every stop, struck a powerful chord with the student community. Central to the experience was the Happy Beats truck, a custom-designed mobile stage that transformed into a dynamic zone for performances, games, and interaction at each campus.
The campaign reimagined wellness through a musical lens. With high-energy shows by bands such as Swastik, Kanya, and Aatma, the initiative brought together rhythm and rejuvenation. The performances took place in top institutions including RV College of Engineering (Bengaluru), International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore, Indian Institute of Science (Bengaluru), BV Raju Institute of Technology (Hyderabad), Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, Great Lakes Institute of Management (Chennai), Shri Ram College of Commerce (Delhi), and Netaji Subhas University of Technology (Delhi).

“Optum Zoom Happy Beats is an innovative extension of our mission, blending music and wellness to connect with young minds. Aimed at college students, the Happy Beats truck signifies the fact that wellness is a journey. Music is a universal connector, and by integrating live performances, interactive games, and high-energy engagements, we created a space where students could unwind and enjoy an immersive experience of wellness with entertainment,” said Uma Ratnam Krishnan, Managing Director, Optum India.

Adding to the immersive experience were thoughtfully curated chill zones and interactive game stations that encouraged students to engage in activities centered around self-awareness, mindfulness, and fun. Popular Radio Mirchi RJs kept the energy flowing with games, challenges, and conversations that resonated deeply with campus culture.
Another powerful layer came from faculty members, who shared their thoughts on how music contributes to overall health and emotional balance — offering students a sense of support and community acknowledgment.

In total, Happy Beats engaged over 10,000 students directly and generated more than 20 million digital impressions, both of which stand as a testament to its widespread impact. More than just an event, it became a movement — a shared reminder that sometimes, the first step to feeling better is simply tuning in, turning up the music, and letting yourself be moved.
