Streaming Ratings: ‘The Traitors’ Scores Series High With Season 3 Premiere

The Traitors is becoming more than just a cult favorite.

The competition series opened its third season with its largest viewing numbers to date: It registered 499 million minutes of viewing on Peacock for the week of Jan. 6-12, based on preliminary Nielsen streaming figures. Season three premiered on Jan. 9. (Nielsen’s streaming figures include all episodes of a show, so some of that time came from prior seasons.)

That’s a series high for The Traitors, whose previous best showing in Nielsen’s streaming ratings was 402 million minutes the week after its season two premiere in January 2024. It’s also the best premiere week for any Peacock unscripted series to date and was the top unscripted show in the United States last week across all platforms.

Full streaming ratings for Jan. 6-12 from Nielsen will be released in a few weeks, per the ratings service’s agreement with streaming platforms.

The full top 10 charts for Dec. 16-22 show Virgin River having a strong showing with the premiere of its sixth season. The Netflix drama had 1.82 billion minutes of viewing, in line with its fifth season premiere (1.92 billion minutes) in September 2023.

Netflix’s movie Carry-On improved on its already strong opening, grabbing 1.92 billion minutes to lead the overall rankings. Prime Video’s Red One came down some from its huge first week but still had a big showing with 1.66 billion minutes of watch time. Tyler Perry’s movie The Six Triple Eight debuted to a solid 867 million minutes for Netflix.

Among original series, Netflix’s Norwegian miniseries La Palma (893 million minutes) more than doubled its total from the previous week, and Paramount+’s Landman (872 million) continued to grow.

Nielsen’s streaming ratings cover viewing on TV sets only and don’t include minutes watched on computers or mobile devices. The ratings only measure U.S. audiences, not those in other countries. The top streaming titles for Dec. 16-22, 2024, are below.
