Disha Patani to Star Opposite Emraan Hashmi in Awarapan 2

In 2007, Mohit Suri and Emraan Hashmi collaborated on the gangster-themed love story titled Awarapan. Despite not performing well at the box office, the film has got a cult following among movie buffs over the years. The music of Awarapan also gained popularity, and today, the film is regarded as one of the most tragic love stories in Mohit Suri’s filmography. The love and appreciation for the film made the producers announce a sequel to Awarapan, with Emraan Hashmi reprising his role as Shivam Pandit. However, Nitin Kakkar has taken over from Mohit Suri as the director.

And now, according to a report from Pinkvilla, it has been learnt that Mukesh Bhatt and Nitin Kakkar have roped in Disha Patani to play the female lead of Awarapan 2. A source close to the development revealed, “Much like Awarapan, the sequel too is an intense love story, set against the backdrop of the gangster world. The spirit of the first part is intact, and the makers are expanding the world into a sequel format with 2x the romance and 2x the emotions. Emraan Hashmi will be playing Shivam Pandit whereas details of Disha’s character have been kept under wraps.” 

According to the makers, Disha fit the role perfectly as per the script demands and she too loved the script right at the narration. The source informed, “Disha was bowled over by the emotional arc in the script, and it was an instant yes from her end to come on board.” The source also added that the team of Awarapan is currently working on the music, with plans to compose intense romantic songs. 

The source concluded, “Awarapan stands for music, and the sequel too will have a wholesome music album, with the possibility for the return of some old melodies. The shoot for Awarapan 2 begins by September end/early October, and the team is looking to call it a wrap by the month of January.” The film is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2026.
