Dylan O’Brien, Diane Lane Spar Over His Girlfriend in Trailer for ‘Anniversary’

Diane Lane isn’t pleased with Dylan O’Brien’s choice of girlfriend in the trailer for Anniversary.

Lionsgate releases director Jan Komasa’s thriller feature in theaters Oct. 29. Kyle Chandler, Madeline Brewer, Zoey Deutch, Phoebe Dynevor, Mckenna Grace and Daryl McCormack round out the cast.

Anniversary centers on a family torn apart when Josh (O’Brien) brings home his girlfriend, Liz (Dynevor), who was his mom Ellen’s (Lane) former student and has a controversial past.

“Our son’s new girlfriend is a former student,” Lane says in the trailer. “She’s radical in her ideology.” Later, Lane adds, “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that she’s attached herself to Josh.”

In a different scene, O’Brien confronts Lane over her feelings about Dynevor. “Can you pretend to be happy for me?” O’Brien asks. “You couldn’t bend her your way. It drives you insane.”

Komasa (Good Boy) helmed the film from a script by Lori Rosene-Gambino, with the story credited to Komasa and Rosene-Gambino. Serving as producers are Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz, Paula Mae Schwartz and Kate Churchill.

O’Brien’s recent films include Ponyboi, Saturday Night and Caddo Lake. His forthcoming feature projects include Twinless, Send Help and Being Heumann.

Lane’s recent credits include the Netflix series A Man in Full and a voice role in Inside Out 2.

“I’m grateful for this powerful, timely story and the inspiring, generous cast who brought it to life,” Lane told People about Anniversary. “Jan Komasa’s brilliant direction of Lori Rosene-Gambino’s script holds a mirror to our national identity crisis through the lens of one family.”
