Janhvi Kapoor BREAKS SILENCE on being trolled for saying Bharat Mata Ki Jai at Janmashtami event

On Janmashtami, Janhvi Kapoor took part in a Dahi Handi event in the city. What seemed like a rather casual event landed the actress in hot water after she chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. After facing criticism and trolling online, Janhvi finally took to social media to address the incident. For the uninitiated, the Param Sundari actress chanted ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ in the event that took place in Ghatkopar on August 16. Netizens took the video clip out of context and trolled her for confusing Janmashtami with Independence Day. Responding to this, she shared a clip on Instagram that showed BJP MLA Ram Kadam chant the slogan first. She said that the clip was edited in a way to show that her chant was out of context. She also quipped that had she not repeated the chant after he said it, it would have been a problem as well.

Janhvi wrote, “Unke bolne ke baad nahi bolti toh problem, aur bolo toh bhi video ko kaat ke meme material. Waise sirf Janmashtami nahi, roz bolungi Bharat Mata ki Jai.” (If I hadn’t repeated it after he said it, it would be a problem. And if I do, the video gets edited and turned into meme material. Not just on Janmashtami, I’ll say Bharat Mata ki Jai every day.) 

Meanwhile, on the work front, Janhvi is promoting her upcoming film Param Sundari with Sidharth Malhotra. This romantic drama marks their first-ever collaboration. Most recently, they were in Lucknow, where the duo was seen enjoying tasty chaat. Param Sundari is a cross-cultural romantic comedy where North meets South. The trailer shows the story of a Delhi-based boy, played by Sidharth Malhotra, and a young woman from Kerala, played by Janhvi Kapoor. Their different backgrounds create comic situations, dramatic moments, and a blossoming romance as they navigate their relationship. The Tushar Jalota directorial will be released on August 29.
