Daboo Malik Opens Up About Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Anu Malik

Composer Daboo Malik recently opened up about the sexual misconduct allegations against his brother, Anu Malik, during the Me Too movement in India. He revealed that it ‘shattered’ them as a family and they couldn’t handle the pain Anu went through at that time. For the uninitiated, the composer was accused of sexual misconduct by several female singers. He was removed as a judge from Indian Idol 8 and resigned from season 9 as well. However, the National Women’s Commission gave him a clean chit in 2020 for the lack of evidence.

Opening up about it, Daboo Malik said, “It shattered us as a family. He was also taken aback. We couldn’t handle the pain he went through at the time with so many people targeting him. We supported him emotionally. We saw to it that he got back in terms of work and meetings.”

The composer added that these allegations were quite a setback for his brother. “As a family, I couldn’t pass any judgment. One should not. He saw a very difficult time. I have supported him on an individual level because when you see someone going through so much, it was quite a setback for him,” added Daboo.

He further revealed that Anu’s parents couldn’t understand what was happening because of their old age. He continued, “We give it too much importance. I don’t think we are stars. He is not a Shah Rukh Khan or a superstar. We are musicians. Unnecessarily, we keep talking about someone on social media and end up giving them a position. I don’t think we are that important to even have this conversation.”
Sona Mohapatra, Neha Bhasin, Alisha Chinai and Shweta Pandit were some of the artistes who accused Anu Malik of sexual harassment.
