Hrithik Roshan Admits Rejecting 3 Idiots and Dil Chahta Hai

Hrithik Roshan is undoubtedly one of Bollywood’s leading stars, celebrated for his memorable performances in films such as Koi…Mil Gaya, Jodhaa Akbar, Guzaarish, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Agneepath, and Super 30.

Despite his impressive filmography, Hrithik Roshan admits he regrets turning down roles in two iconic films, Dil Chahta Hai and 3 Idiots both of which eventually starred Aamir Khan. 

While promoting War 2 in Sri Lanka recently, Hrithik Roshan spoke about his regret over letting go of two iconic films. He said, “I said no to Dil Chahta Hai, and I said no to 3 Idiots. But I think Aamir Khan was the right choice for both those films.” 

He said that destiny played a role, saying, “Aamir was fantastic and truly owned those films.” To this day, Aamir Khan’s performances in both movies are widely praised and highly regarded. Aamir takes on the role of Akash Malhotra, a rich and sarcastic young man who doesn’t believe in emotional connection and prefers living in the moment. However, his bond with Shalini, played by Preity Zinta challenges him to recognize the hollowness beneath his playful side. 

Eight years after Dil Chahta Hai, Aamir Khan took on the role of Rancho in 3 Idiots, a character that left a lasting cultural impact. Known for his insatiable curiosity and kindness, Rancho fearlessly challenges conventional education methods and motivates his friends to chase their dreams instead of following strict norms. 

Both characters were loved by audiences and are some of Aamir Khan’s best-known roles. Meanwhile, Hrithik Roshan is all set for the upcoming release of War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced as a part of the YRF Spy Universe. Touted as the biggest film of 2025, War 2 will feature Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani, and Jr. NTR.
